Wednesday 5/4/11 That's right. We're being held hostage here on the Redneck Riviera. I now believe it's a conspiracy concocted by the marina and certain suppliers to keep us here as long as possible. Once again our part (transducer) was supposed to be here yesterday but alas, it was only as far as the regional distribution center, 2 hours away. It will be here first thing on Wednesday(today).
So today arrives and so does Jim the technician with empty hands. Seems the transducer arrived but it was the wrong one. Instead of establishing an account with the transducer company and ordering it direct he followed his companies protocol and ordered it through another vendor. Needless to say the local vendor some how screwed up the order! A line from My Cousin Vinny sums it up best, "What a f___in nightmare!"
We've been here now a week. All the while the transducer manufacturer has 12 of the model I need sitting in stock. If only people would take their job seriously. Again I say no wonder the Chinese are kicking our butts!
On a lighter note, Pam and I walked about a mile and a half to the closest restaurant the other night. While sitting at the bar we got into a lively political discussion with a guy who could have passed for Larry the Cable Guy's little brother, complete with the wife beater t-shirt. In spite of his state of inebriation he had some valid thoughts as to how to remedy our current national state of affairs.
Our walk to the restaurant was a risky one since there are no sidewalks between the marina and the downtown area. Several times we were almost picked off by jacked up jeeps and pickup trucks heading to and from the beach.
Being the intelligent individuals we are we decided to cab it back to the marina. Good idea if the entrance door on the taxi/van would open from the outside so we could get in.
One of the sunny days we dropped the dinghy into the water and took off towards town. Turns out there is a dinghy dock right near downtown. We picked up a couple items at the local convenience store and found a fish market where we picked up some fresh flounder.
Still smells like fish!
Related to smell I spotted the below pictured coin operated pump out station at the dinghy dock. I'm not sure how many small boats have a head on them but from the near new look of this device it can't be many.
Coin operated pump out!
Dinghy dock is to the right of the excursion boats tucked in the corner.
Got to watch the local fire & rescue team practice in the harbor.
Monday evening we called a cab and went to Michael's Restaurant where we had been told had the best seafood chowder around. The chowder wasn't disappointing. In fact they have won several awards for their chowder.
Award winning chowder after I ate half of it. Guess I won't get any pictures published in Food & Wine magazine.
We topped the evening off with visit to the local grocery store before cabbing it back to the marina.
It's OK but not Hy-Vee or Publix!
