2012 Highlights (Leg 4 On to Florida)

We spent a couple of nights at Atlantic Yacht Basin in Chesapeake, Va. to replenish our supplies before continuing South. Nights found us anchoring along the ICW as well as a few marina nights. Hurricane Sandy slipped by us as we sat at Port Royal Landing Marina near Beaufort, SC.
Stops were also made at Charleston, Savannah, & St. Augustine before turning West on the Okeechobee Waterway to our destination of Legacy Harbour in Ft. Myers.
All in all a good year of travel on board Tourist.

Our Chesapeake adventure ended when we arrived back at Atlantic Yacht Basin in Chesapeake, Va.

Recap of 2012 Travels

2012 was another good travel year aboard Tourist. We took it easy the first couple of months with just some short trips around the waters of Southwest Florda. Late March found us casting off and heading East to the clear waters of the Bahamas. We spent a few weeks in the Lucaya area and then ventured on to the Abacos. We crossed back to the states on May 5th making landfall in Ft. Pierce, Fl.

From Ft. Pierce we moved north along the ICW. Tropical Storm Beryl found us holed up in Beaufort, SC for a few days. Eventually we popped into the Chesapeake on July 23rd following a month long hiatus at home. The remainder of the summer and into fall we explored the Chesapeake Bay area with a side trip up the Potomac to Washington D.C.

On October 14th we passed ICW Mile 0 in Norfolk and began our trek back south. Once again we found ourselves sitting out a storm in Beaufort, SC. This time it was Hurricane Sandy which even after it passed by, left strong winds for several days keeping us in port. Eventually we were able to move and continued heading South.

November 9 saw us turn West on the Okeechobee Waterway and head for Ft. Myers. We took our time and arrived back at Legacy Harbour on 11/13/12.

Our 2012 travels covered 3997 statute miles. 436 engine hours. And 3339.4 gallons of fuel.

Looking back further since we first left Mid-Town Marina in East Dubuque, Il. on November 1 of 2008 we have travelled 18,826 miles in Tourist and Pam's still talking to me!
