One Last Weekend

For some reason as we progress in years it becomes harder to schedule times when there isn't something else already on the calendar. It was for this reason that we enjoyed our last weekend on the hook in early October.
The river was still high but receding allowing us to get out of the current and back in protected waters. It was also still high enough to let us take one last dinghy run through the backwaters.

Our first stop as we headed across the channel was to stop for Pam to touch a green buoy so we could take a picture to show the grandkids. What she didn't plan on was touching it in a place that was just painted by the USCG buoy tender Wyaconda less than an hour before. Of course the realization produced an "ooey" from Pam and a mad scramble to find something to wipe off her hand.

From there we headed down Menominee Slough. Mike of course didn't get the memo that it was cool outside!

See what I mean? Even the dog has a fur coat on!

Kim checking for seaweed around the prop.

This log jam created by the high water prevented us from advancing any further. We had been through this route earlier in the season with no trouble.

We had no choice but to turn around and find another way.

Our path took us across an island and past this concrete foundation rumored to have been used as a hideout by Al Capone.

The view of our boats as we came back to the anchorage. Hard to believe the current is ripping by just a few yards behind us.

Kim & Otis relaxing.

I thought I was reviewing the photos in the camera and took this by mistake. Selfie?

Sun setting through the trees.

Of course we finished off the day with dinner and perhaps a libation!

Mike was still in a cooking mood the next morning. Grilling breakfast under the close supervision of Nancy!

One last dinghy ride for the Flanagan's.

All too soon it was time to break apart and head back.
